We collected information, using a social-demographic questionary, about the communities of Rio das Rãs, Riacho de Sacutiaba, Mocambo and Itamoari, remnants of Brazilian quilombos, aiming to build a demographic profile of these populations, based on fertility data. Fertility index were higher in these communities than in rural Brazilian populations, but no statistical differences were noticed. Exceptions were observed in Mocambo and Rio das Rãs, in classes of women aged between 15 and 34 years, which presented lower index than the whole Brazilian rural population, Itamoari, and Riacho de Sacutiaba communities. The exceptions observed can be due a reverse migrant movement.
