El artículo tiene como propósito central, examinar y explicar la pluralidad de significados y esencia del concepto populus; de su vinculación con la noción de res publica y de libertas, como asimismo con la aplicabilidad en el sistema democrático republicano. Se profundizará en el vocablo pueblo en un sentido abstracto y concreto y cómo la experiencia política romana puede ser útil en la actualidad.

The central purpose of the article is to examine and explain the plurality of meanings and essence of the concept populus; its connection with the notion of res publica and libertas, as well as its applicability in the republican democratic system. The term populus in an abstract and concrete sense and how the Roman political experience can be useful today will be explored in depth.
