Resumen de Cinema de Artistas Brasileiros: Hélio Oiticica, Lygia Pape, Antonio Manuel
My goal in this discussion is to talk about films created by the Brazilian artists such as Oiticica, Pape and Manuel.The Brazilian Art avant-garde artists are very important in understanding the Brazilian cinema of their time and thechanges they brought forth in the arts. They began experimenting with film in Super 8 film as an extension of theirartistic work. The Super-8 was seen as a free language because it did not depend on editing and also becausethe Brazilian dictatorship (1964-1985) of the time could not control home video or censor them. They includedperformances, parodies and documents in their films, using the simple techniques of Super 8. This first generationof artists which includes Oiticica, Pape, and Manuel showed an intense contact with the Brazilian directors of cinemamarginal and cinema novo. The artists broke down the boundaries of the artistic language, creating a new languagein the Brazilian cinema.
