Resumen de La dimensión autobiográfica del Viaje del Parnaso

Jean Canavaggio

  • The most recent studies of the Viaje del Parnaso (E. L. Rivers, V. Gaos) emphasize that it is ¿the most autobiographical work¿ of all of Cervantes' production. This essay attempts to show the function of the autobiographical elements in the work. Although our interest in the autobiographical dimension of the Viaje is in part a product of a mode of reading, characteristic of our time, which tends to attribute a dominant function to one particular feature of the work, this aspect cannot be separated from the author-narrator relationship. Cervantes has altered the code of emission of the poem, that of the burlesque trip, by means of a captious use of its conventions, providing for the encounter between this code and our code of reception for the first person narrative.
