L’interesse di Carlo Emilio Gadda per le arti visuali è testimoniato dalla diffusa presenza, nelle sue opere, di riferimenti (espliciti o criptici) ad artisti e opere d’arte nonché dalla redazione di recensioni a mostre o “prose” di argomento artistico. Il presente saggio si sofferma sul breve scritto Autografo per Giorgio De Chirico, pubblicato nel 1938. Analizzandone le fonti letterarie e iconografiche, il saggio intende mostrare come in questa prosa Gadda proponga una riflessione sul rapporto intermediale tra testo letterario e immagine e, più in generale, sul ruolo e sulla funzione dell’arte.

Carlo Emilio Gadda’s interest in the visual arts is evidenced by the widespread presence in his works of references (explicit or cryptic) to artists and works of art as well as by the writing of texts on artistic subjects such as reviews to exhibitions or “prose” on artistic topics. The present essay focuses on the short writing Autografo per Giorgio De Chirico, published in 1938. By analyzing its literary and iconographic sources, the essay aims to show how in this prose Gadda proposes a reflection on the intermedial relationship between literary text and image and, more generally, on the role and function of art.
