Resumen de Hipertensión pulmonar canina por dirofilariosis como modelo de estudio (one health) en cardiologia humana

La hipertensión arterial pulmonar (HAP) es una enfermedad grave en medicina humana y canina. Su estudio en modelos animales, como la HAP por dirofilariosis canina (Dirofilaria immitis), puede servir de base al hallazgo de nuevas herramientas diagnósticas y terapéuticas a nivel veterinario y humano. En este trabajo, se validó el Índice de Distensibilidad de la Arteria Pulmonar Derecha (IDAP) como un método ecocardiográfico sencillo y objetivo para determinar y monitorizar la presencia de HAP en perros con dirofilariosis desde fases muy tempranas y evaluar la persistencia de HAP tras el tratamiento adulticida. Por otro lado, se observó que incrementos de proteína C reactiva se correlacionaba con la severidad de la HAP y que persistían tras el tratamiento, excepto en perros sin HAP. Así, estas proteínas podrían constituir un marcador de la persistencia del daño arterial pulmonar en dirofilariosis y tiene aplicación humana

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a severe disease in human and canine medicine. The study of animal models, like PAH in canine heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) can provide a basis for the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic tools for both animals and humans. In this work, the Right Pulmonary Artery Distensibility Index (RPAD) is validated as objective and easy echocardiographic method to determine and monitor the presence of PAH in heartworm-infected dogs in early phases and evaluate the persistence of PAH after the adulticide treatment. On the other hand, increases of C-reactive protein were observed to correlate with the severity of PAH as well as persistence after the treatment, except those dogs without PAH. Thus, these proteins might constitute a marker of pulmonary arterial damage persistence in heartworm animal and human.
