  Se analiza una muestra de 600 niños del total de 1.200 inscritos como recién nacidos en 1977 en el Consultorio A. del Río perteneciente al S.S.M. Sur Oriente. Desde su historia clínica se extrae la información sobre causas y frecuencia de consultas por morbilidad entre los 2 y 5 años de edad. Los resultados son semejantes a los observados en estudios realizados en otros establecimientos. La tasa de consultas nuevas varía entre 77.1% a los 2 años hasta 62% entre 4 y 5. Las causas de consultas más frecuentes corresponden a Respiratorias, infecciosas y parasitarias y afecciones a la piel. Con la edad aumentan levemente las enfermedades mentales y los accidentes. La concentración de consultas disminuye con la edad. Los que no consultan a los 2 años alcanzan a 22% mientras que entre 4 y 5 años la proporción se eleva a 37%.

  A sample of 600 children among 1.200 registered at birth in ”Dr. Alejandro del Río" Policlinic, Puente Alto, Chile is studied. All the data regarding etiology and frequency of consultations for the group between 2 and 5 years of age obtained from clinical records. Conclusions are similar to those obtained by other authors in other primary health centers. Frequency of new consultations decreased from 77.1% at 2 years of age to 62.0% between 4 and 5 years of age. Respiratory, infectious, parasitic and dermatologic diseases constitute the main causes of consultation. It is remarquable a slight increase of mental disorders and accidents with the increase of age whilst the frequency of individual consultations decrease. 22% of the children at 2 years of age do not demand medical care while at the age between 4 and 5 years the proportion is 37%. The phenomenon is attributed to the medical education received with previous consultations.
