Resumen de El arte de la invención: La realidad como relato en un texto de Borges

Este artículo tiene como propósito fundamental analizar y contrastar el modo en que aparecen representadas las nociones de Historia y Literatura en el cuento El tema del traidor y del héroe, de Jorge Luis Borges. Sobre tales nociones y las relaciones que mantienen en el texto, recaerá nuestro análisis pues pensamos que las diferencias y semejanzas que les suelen asignar las convenciones sociales y académicas son puestas en tela de juicio, e incluso paro- diadas, por el escritor argentino. Desde este punto de vista no se puede dejar de notar que para Borges tanto la Historia como la Literatura (e, incluso, lo que solemos llamar realidad), no son sino modos de relato, es decir, versiones e interpretaciones del mundo.

In this article I analyze and compare the strategies used by Jorge Luis Borges when representing basic conceptions of History and Literature in his short story “El tema del traidor y del héroe” (“The tale of the traitor and the hero”). I focus our analysis on the descriptions of and relationships between both, History and Literature, in the text. I stand by the hypothesis that socially and academically supported differences and similarities, discussed usually during any mutual comparison between both disciplines, are not just confronted in the tale but even parodied by the Argentinian author. Under this scope it is evi- dent that Borges understands History and Literature (and even what we tend to call reality) as different ways of storytelling, id est, alternative perspectives and interpretations of the world.
