    La situación actual de la industria de defensa europea, o las diferentes industrias de defensa de sus países miembros consideradas de manera individual o en clústeres de cooperación e intereses estratégicos, ha experimentado diferentes fases desde la segunda guerra mundial hasta los retos de la actualidad, en parte puestos de evidencia por la actual guerra en Ucrania y otros conflictos como el judeopalestino, entre otros, pasando por el desarme estructural y los tiempos de austeridad tras el colapso y desmembramiento de la Unión Soviética.

    Analizaremos las diferentes etapas por las que ha pasado esta industria en Europa, en comparación con las demás grandes potencias del sector, principalmente Estados Unidos, y veremos las implicaciones e importancia de la dualidad civil-militar y de los largos ciclos de desarrollo e inversión estructurales, ambos factores inseparables de una industria tan estratégica como la aeroespacial y de defensa. También analizaremos los elementos claves a los que la industria aeroespacial y de defensa se enfrenta en la actualidad, las decisiones y alternativas que deberán tomar los gobiernos europeos y sus industrias tractoras, y cómo estas decisiones afectarán a la soberanía y cohesión de la Unión Europea y a la posición e influencia de Europa en el mundo en el corto, medio y largo plazo, aunque ésta última parte merece ser tratada en un artículo posterior.

    The current situation of the European defense industry, or the different defense industries of its member countries considered individually or in clusters of cooperation and strategic interests, has experienced different phases from the Second World War to the challenges of today, in part evidenced by the current war in Ukraine and other conflicts such as the Judeo-Palestinian, among others, through structural disarmament and times of austerity after the collapse and dismemberment of the Soviet Union. We will analyze the different stages that this industry has gone through in Europe, in comparison with the other great powers in the sector, mainly the United States, and we will see the implications and importance of the civil-military duality and the long cycles of structural development and investment, both factors inseparable from an industry as strategic as aerospace and defense. We will also analyze the key elements that the aerospace and defense industry currently faces, the decisions and alternatives that European governments and their driving industries will have to make, and how these decisions will affect the sovereignty and cohesion of the European Union and the position and influence of Europe in the world in the short, medium and long term, although this last part deserves to be addressed in a later article.
