Resumen de Capítulo 4. Pensamiento crítico, sostenibilidad y trabajo colaborativo en línea

  Mucho se habla acerca de la sostenibilidad en el contexto actual; la agricultura, la industria y la educación lo integran en sus discursos, pero, ¿es la sostenibilidad algo más que un concepto? Responder a esta pregunta requiere de maximizar la sensibilidad hacia las distintas dimensiones que componen la sostenibilidad y, para ello, se debe iniciar con lo básico: la educación. El profesor Jorge Membrillo-Hernández del Técnico de Monterrey (Tec) se ha posicionado como uno de los referentes en la relación de la sostenibilidad y la educación, y fue precisamente con él con quien se inició esta experiencia en torno a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). En 2020 comenzó una relación interinstitucional con el Tec que buscaba fomentar la comprensión de la sostenibilidad más allá del mero concepto. Para ello, se desarrollaron cursos COIL denominados Reto Nepenthes, en los cuales confluía la biomimética y la botánica, estructurados a través del aprendizaje basado en retos y empleando un lenguaje común, la sostenibilidad. Con el soporte técnico del Tec se han realizado a la fecha cinco experiencias COIL, en las cuales han 86 recibido insignias digitales que dan fe de la adquisición y demostración de competencias en internacionalización, interculturalidad y sostenibilidad, 124 estudiantes de UNIMINUTO y 155 estudiantes del Tec. El impacto ha sido positivo, los participantes han formulado investigaciones a partir de las metodologías empleadas en los COIL y han demostrado pensamiento crítico a la hora de justificar la sostenibilidad en diversas disciplinas, en sus campos de práctica, trabajos de grado y en la vida profesional. Además, los profesores han tenido la oportunidad de intercambiar sus conocimientos a través de movilidades entres sus países y generar productos de investigación en términos de educación y sostenibilidad.

  There’s much talk about sustainability in the current context; agriculture, industry, and education integrate it into their discourse, but is sustainability more than just a concept? Answering this question requires maximizing sensitivity to the different dimensions that make up sustainability, and to do that, it starts with the basics: education. Professor Jorge Membrillo-Hernández of the Tec. de Monterrey has positioned himself as a leading figure in the relationship between sustainability and education, and it was with him that the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) experience was initiated. In 2020, an inter-institutional relationship with the Tec. was started to promote a better understanding of sustainability beyond just the concept. To do this, COIL courses were developed, called “Reto Nepenthes,” which combined biomimicry and botany, structured through challenge-based learning and using the common language of sustainability. With the technical support of the Tec., f ive COIL experiences have been carried out to date, in which 124 students from UNIMINUTO and 155 students from Tec. de Monterrey received digital badges as evidence of their acquisition and demonstration of competencies in internationalization, interculturalism, and sustainability. The impact has been positive, participating students have conducted research using the COIL methodologies, and they demonstrate critical thinking in justifying sustainability in various disciplines, in their fields of practice, final projects, and in professional life. Furthermore, teachers have had the opportunity to exchange their knowledge through mobility between their countries and generate research products in terms of education and sustainability.
