El Proyecto Amate es consecuencia del trabajo de investigación en el campo de la imaginería novohispana presente en España. Los estudios iniciados sobre el significativo número de piezas que se conservan agrupan las imágenes por talleres. Los casos que se exponen en esta publicación representan al taller de Ágreda, al de Cortés, al de los Grandes Cristos y al taller de Telde. Todas las imágenes tienen en común su esencia material, pero difieren en su construcción. Los resultados de nuestras investigaciones agrupan las imágenes en esculturas embonadas y en esculturas huecas. La aplicación material utilizada en cada grupo es diferente. La comparación de los resultados obtenidos mediante métodos de análisis tanto químicos como de imagen multiespectral resultan fundamentales para comprender mejor su construcción, caracterizar los talleres y definir otros nuevos y replantearnos clasificaciones previas.

The Amate project is a consequence of the research work in the field of novohispanic imagery present in Spain. The studies initiated over the significant number of preserved pieces grouped the images by workshops. The cases that are exposed in this publication represent the Agreda´s workshop, the Cortés ´s workshop, the workshop of the Great Christs and the workshop of Telde. They all have in common its material essence but differ on their structure. Based on the results of our research, the images are grouped in embossed and hollow sculptures. The materialapplication within each group is different. The comparison of results obtained by means of chemical as well as multispectral imaging techniques are essential to better understand its construction, to characterize the workshops and define new ones, and to rethink previous classifications.
