El Archivo Histórico del Banco de España ha creado un Archivo Fotográfico con el material acumulado a lo largo de más de un siglo entre los expedientes administrativos que ha generado la institución. Se trata de una colección artificial o facticia formada en razón tanto de las necesidades de conservación y control, como de una descripción intensiva propia de este tipo de materiales. La colección tiene, actualmente, unas 25.000 fotografías, en lasque se han identificado alrededor de 600 fotógrafos como sus autores. Desde el punto de vista temático, podemos decir que existen, básicamente, tres grupos de fotografías: las procedentes de la gestión y obras en los edificios del Banco, las de los retratos de empleados y las de actos institucionales. El Archivo Fotográfico del Banco de España constituye el testimonio de la imagen gráfica de la institución a lo largo de los últimos ciento cincuenta años de historia. La creación de este Archivo ha supuesto una evidente puesta en valor del patrimonio documental del Banco de España y ha ampliado nuestro conocimiento sobre la institución y sobre quienes han interactuado con ella.

The Historical Archive of the Bank of Spain has created a Photographic Archive with the photographic material accumulated over more than a century among the administrative files that the institution has generated. It is an artificialor factitious collection formed due to both conservation and control needs, as well as an intensive description of this type of material. The collection currently has some 25,000 photographs, in which around 600 photographers have been identified as their authors. From the thematic point of view, we can say that there are basically three groups of photographs: those from the management and works of the Bank›s buildings, those of the portraits of employees and those of institutional acts. The Photographic Archive of the Bank of Spain constitutes the testimony of the graphic image of the institution throughout the last one hundred and thirty years of history. The creation of this Archive has meant an evident enhancement of the documentary heritage of the Bank of Spain and has expanded our knowledge of the institution and of those who have interacted with it.
