En esta ponencia abordo globalmente la emigración extremeña a las Indias en la Edad Moderna, tratando de rebatir mitos y tópicos. Los emigrantes no eran delincuentes, ni miserables, entre otras cosas porque la gestión para el embaraque y el propio billete eran inasequibles para ellos. Asimismo, no solo he valorado el flujo hacia las Indias sino también el retorno, lo mismo de personas que de mercancías, capitales e ideas. Los extremeños jugaron un papel extraordinario en todo el proceso expansivo de occidente que terminó cambiando el mundo para siempre. Desde entonces, ni Extremadura se entiende sin América, ni América sin Extremadura.

In this paper I address globally the emigration from Extremadura to the Indies in the ModernAge, trying to refute myths and topics. The emigrants were not criminals or miserable, amongother things because the management for boarding and the ticket itself were unaffordable forthem.Likewise, I have not only valued the flow to the Indies but also the return, both of people andmerchandise, capital and ideas. The Extremadurans played an extraordinary role in the entireexpansive process of the West that ended up changing the world forever. Since then,Extremadura cannot be understood without America, nor America without Extremadura.
