En el presente artículo se reseña la vida de Publius Vergilius Maro y se realiza una aproximación a sus primeras obras: Eclogae y Georgica libri. Asimismo se ubica al poeta mantuano en su contexto histórico, destacando los dos períodos literariospor los que transitó. Finalmente se aborda la materia épica en la Eneida, la gran gesta augustea en donde se confunden el mito y la historia.

This article reviews the life of Publius Vergilius Maro and addresses his first works: Eclogae and Georgica libri. Additionally, it places the Mantuan poet in his historical context, highlighting the two literary periods he travelled. Finally, it addresses theepic material in The Aeneid, the great Augustan epic where myth and history are entwined.
