La inferencia a la mejor explicación: una breve defensa

    Cuando se tienen distintas explicaciones sobre un mismo hecho o con conjunto de observaciones puede ser que existan diversas teorías que busquen dar cuenta de tal situación. Al tener diversas teorías compitiendo entre sí por mostrar que una es la mejor, la solución puede ser un tanto confusa. Sin embargo, existe un procedimiento altamente confiable para decidir cuál de las explicaciones competidoras es la mejor. Su nombre es el de la inferencia a la mejor explicación (IME). Su caracterización puede presentar cierta dificultad al buscar una definición rigurosa. Las críticas en contra de tal inferencia no se han hecho esperar. En este trabajo se defenderá el uso de la IME pues puede considerarse que las críticas no son devastadoras y que, inclusive, el modelo de la inferencia a la mejor explicación puede modificarse para responder mejor a estos planteamientos.

    When you have differing explanations about a fact or a set of observations, it could mean that there exist different theories showing that situation. There are several theories that contend between other ones with an aim to demonstrate that one of them is a correct option, the solution might be confused. Nevertheless, there exists a highly safe procedure to decide which explanation is the best. Its name is the inference to the best explanation (IBE). Its features could be kind of difficult when looking for a specific definition of this. The critics against that inference have not been waiting. This paper defends IBE uses, because it can be considered that critics are not disastrous, even though this model might be modified to answer better regarding these approaches.
