Resumen de La formación del futuro profesorado en violencia de género: conocimientos, percepciones y retos

Gladys Merma Molina

  • The presence of gender-based violence (GBV) has been identified as one of the critical elements to be eradicated to achieve people's well-being. Therefore, the present research aimed to analyze the knowledge and opinions prospective teachers have about GBV. The qualitative paradigm was used. In the first year of the.

Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education at the University of Alicante (Spain), fifty-two students participated. A questionnaire with open-ended questions was used for data collection. Based on the findings, it is concluded that women understand that GBV manifests itself through mistreatment, aggression or abusive acts of a verbal, physical or psychological nature, in which women are the victims. In contrast, men consider that these acts are perpetrated toward the opposite sex or any person. Gender-based GBV was also associated with sexism.

In this sense, positions that considered it as a form of discrimination and sex/gender superiority, especially by men towards women, were prevalent. In addition, a group of students could not explain the meaning and implications of GBV. Given the impact of GBV on sustainable development, it is urgent to design and develop specific training actions in Spanish Faculties of Education.
