    Quel sont les fondements de l’ontologie minimaliste (historique, enjeux, principes et méthode) ? Quelle est l’image de la nature que cette approche propose? Qu’est-ce que la matière? Quels sont les éléments fondamentaux de la matière? Comment se constituent les objets du monde ? Quel est le ciment des chose ? Quel est la valeur de cette ontologie? Telles sont les questions qui se trouvent au cœur de cet article. La réflexion qui y est menée a pour objectif de cerner les enjeux et les implications de la proposition d’ontologie minimaliste avancée par Michael Esfeld et André-Dirk Deckert. Elle tire son importance du fait que malgré les grandes avancées enregistrées dans la connaissance du monde, tant sur le plan scientifique que philosophique, ces questions continuent de faire débat et à interpeller la pensée. L’étendue et la grande diversité de la littérature qui s’est développée autour de ces sujets depuis l’avènement de la physique quantique ne facilitent pas les choses. Dans ce contexte, l’approche minimaliste d’Esfeld et Deckert s’illustre par son originalité, sa cohérence et son adéquation empirique. Il s’agit, en un mot d’une proposition crédible face à laquelle il convient néanmoins de se poser la question de savoir si elle permet réellement d’expliquer de manière systématique la totalité du monde naturel.

    What are the foundations of minimalist ontology (history, issues, principles and method)? What is the image of nature that this approach proposes? What is matter? What are the fundamental elements of matter? How are the objects of the world constituted? What is the glue that holds things together? What is the value of this ontology? These are the questions at the heart of this article. The aim of the reflection is to identify the issues and implications of the proposal for minimalist ontology put forward by Michael Esfeld and André-Dirk Deckert. It derives its importance from the fact that despite the great advances recorded in the knowledge of the world, both scientifically and philosophically, these questions continue to be debated and to challenge thought. The breadth and diversity of literature that has developed around these topics since the advent of quantum physics does not make things any easier. In this context, the minimalist approach of Esfeld and Deckert is illustrated by its originality, coherence and empirical adequacy. In a word, it is a credible proposal against which it is nevertheless necessary to ask whether it really makes it possible to explain in a systematic way the totality of the natural world.
