    Las relaciones entre la UE y la ASEAN constituyen uno de los ejemplos más significativos de los esfuerzos acometidos por la Unión Europea para consolidarse como un actor global desde la década de los noventa. Tales relaciones han discurrido, no sin altibajos, por diferentes canales no completamente independientes, pero tampoco relacionados de forma estructurada. También han contribuido en mayor o menor medida, además de a hacer posible el diálogo, la cooperación y los intercambios entre las dos regiones, a fomentar la institucionalización del sistema internacional, el multilateralismo y las dinámicas de gobernanza global. En una coyuntura difícil como la actual, caracterizada por el auge de las grandes potencias cabe preguntarse por la situación y razón de ser de estas relaciones. Todo parece indicar que, pese a las dificultades, viven un momento de relanzamiento.

    The relations between the EU and ASEAN are one of the most significant examples of the efforts undertaken by the European Union since it became a global actor in the 1990s. These relations have taken place, not without ups and downs, through different channels that are not completely independent, but also not related in a structured way. They have contributed, to a greater or lesser extent, not only to making dialogue, cooperation and exchanges between the two regions possible, but also to fostering the institutionalisation of the international system, multilateralism and the dynamics of global governance. At a difficult juncture such as the current one, characterised by the rise of the great powers, the situation and raison d’être of these relations should be assessed. Despite the difficulties, they seem to be experiencing a moment of revival.
