Este artículo trata de explicar, desde el contexto general hasta lo inmediato local, por qué apareció la figura de fuego de El Diablo en la fiesta de San Miguel en Breña Alta durante la década de 1940. A través de las semblanzas de Corina Pérez Martín (1916-2008), creadora intelectual de la criatura diabólica, y de su padre Agustín Pérez Siverio (1884-1951), uno de los participantes en la confección del mascarón, se aportan algunas claves para entender su protagonismo en este evento festivo. This article tries to explain why the figure of fire the Devil of San Miguel appeared in Breña Alta during the 1940s, from the general context to the near influence. Through the brief biographies of Corina Pérez Martín (1916-2008), intellectual creator of the diabolical creature, and her father Agustín Pérez Siverio (1884-1951), one of the participants in the making of the large mask, some keys are provided to understand the role of both in this festive event. Finally, the reasons for the recovery of the Devil of San Miguel in the 21st century are exposed, the renewed and innovative aspects of its staging are pointed out and its possibilities for the future are questioned.
