    En este trabajo se analiza uno de los elementos esenciales de las procesiones del Corpus Christi del Antiguo Régimen: los gigantes, tarascas y bestiario festivo. Se estudia su origen, significado y simbolismo, tipologías y evolución en las diferentes regiones de España, así como su trasvase a América y Filipinas. Se continúa con un análisis del proceso que condujo a la prohibición en 1780 de estas figuras en las procesiones religiosas y sus consecuencias. Se concluye con la recuperación de estos elementos festivos en los siglos XIX y XX, con un carácter exclusivamente lúdico y fuera de todo contexto religioso

    This paper analyzes one of the essential elements of the Corpus Christi processions of the Old Regime: the giants, tarascas and festive bestiary. Its origin, meaning and symbolism, typologies and evolution in the different regions of Spain are studied, as well as its transfer to America and the Philippines. It continues with an analysis of the process that led to the prohibition in 1780 of these figures in religious processions and its consequences. It concludes with the recovery of these festive elements in the 19th and 20th centuries, with an exclusively playful character and out of any religious context
