El presente artículo trata sobre el estado de las fortificaciones de Sevilla, o, mejor dicho, Isbilya, previas al asedio de Fernando III (1246-48). Empleando indistintamente fuentes musulmanas y cristianas, describimos las características de los muros, puertas y torreones de la ciudad del momento, con especial incidencia sobre la originalidad de la torre del Oro. Dándonos cuenta de las imponentes defensas de Sevilla ante las huestes cristianas y la inexistencia, por parte de estos, de un asedio duro (con asaltos a escala), mayor consideración debe tener este episodio militar en la historia medieval española.

This article deals with the state of the fortifications of Seville, or, rather, Isbilya, prior to the siege of Fernando III (1246-48). Using Muslim and Christian sources indistinctly, we describe the characteristics of the walls, gates and towers of the city of the time, with special incidence on the originality of the Torre del Oro. Noting the imposing defenses of Seville against the Christian hosts and the non-existence On the part of these, of a harsh siege (with scale assaults), this military episode must have greater consideration in Spanish medieval history.
