This essay explicates a program of public speaking training, including development of a written proposal, conducting the workshop in four 3‐hour sessions, and evaluating the program. The discussion topics were delivery, organization, persuasion and audience analysis; each trainee delivered four speeches. Results of the program evaluation indicated that the training was well received and reduced trainees’ self‐reported communication apprehension. Ethical guidelines for scholar/consultants are presented.
