    Introducción: Spontaneous pneumomediastinum is the presence of free air in the mediastinum without a history of chest trauma. It is an apparently benign and self-limited condition that is treated conservatively in mild cases but can lead to serious complications such as acute respiratory failure and be life-threatening. The clinical diagnosis is based on two central symptoms: chest pain and dyspnea, accompanied by a particular sign, "subcutaneous emphysema", which can be impressive in the appearance of the patient.Objetivo: Conocer el inicio de los Colegios de dentistas en el País Vasco.Resultados: Las actas colegiales y las revistas odontológicas permiten conocer el desarrollo del asociacionismo odontológico vasco.Comentarios: Hemos encontrado similitudes con otros territorios nacionales tanto en diferentes visiones de la profesión como en el desarrollo del asociacionismo.

    Introduction: Dentistry goes through different stages both in teaching and in professional associationism at the end of the nineteenth century and in the first decades of the twentieth century. The union between dentists has as its fundamental objective the fight against intrusiveness, scientific improvement and achieve a social validation that it lacked. Dentistry was considered the "little sister" of Medicine and there were many dentists at this stage who followed the path traced by doctors in many aspects, including compulsory membership.Objective: Know the beginning of the Dental Colleges in the Basque Country.Results: College records and dental magazines allow us to learn about the development of Basque dental associations.Comments: There are similarities with other national territories both in different visions of the profession and in the development of associationism.

    Sarrera: Odontologiak hainbat etapa izan zituen irakaskuntzan eta elkargo profesionalean XIX. mendearen amaieran eta XX. mendearen lehen hamarkadetan. Dentisten arteko batasunaren helburu nagusia intrusismoaren aurkako borroka, hobekuntza zientifikoa eta ez zuen balidazio soziala lortzea izan zen. Odontologia Medikuntzaren “ahizpa txikitzat” hartzen zen, eta dentista askok jarraitu zuten medikuek egindako bidea, derrigorrezko elkargokidetzea barne.Helburua: Azterlan honetan, Euskadiko Dentisten Elkargoen hasiera aztertu dugu.Ondorioak: Elkargoko aktek eta aldizkari odontologikoek euskal asoziazionismo odontologikoaren garapena ezagutzeko aukera ematen dute.Iruzkinak: Beste lurralde nazional batzuekin antzekotasunak aurkitu ditugu, bai lanbidearen ikuspegi desberdinetan, bai asoziazionismoaren garapenean.
