The biodiversity of microbial community in the caecum of multiparous does and their offspring weaned at 28 (D28) or 42 (D42) days was studied. Until weaning, pups had free access to the does´ commercial diet and after that received a growth diet. Caecotrophes of does (n=5) and two pups of each litter were sampled at 17, 28 and 38 days after parturition. Microbial similarity was studied by DGGE, and biodiversity indexes were determined. Similarity of caecal microbiota in pups at 17 and 28 days was more affected by the does effect than by the age at weaning pups. At 38 days after parturition, a higher similarity and biodiversity in D42 (P<0.05) indicates higher microbial biodiversity when weaning is delayed.
