    A finales de 1916, las vicisitudes de la guerra llevaron a los Imperios Centrales a anunciar el renacimiento de Polonia como país independiente. La decisión, que facilitó la progresiva constitución del primer Estado polaco en más de un siglo, marcaría la política de la Europa oriental durante el siguiente lustro, pues, además de dotarse de instituciones estables, la reaparecida república tuvo que enfrentarse desde el primer momento a la difícil tarea de defender sus vulnerables fronteras. Como testigos privilegiados de lo acontecido durante aquellos años, los diplomáticos españoles remitieron a Madrid numerosos informes que, en conjunto, constituyen un valioso archivo documental para conocer mejor un periodo crucial de la historia europea y las relaciones entre dos países, España y Polonia, con no pocas similitudes.

    At the end of 1916, the adversities of war led the Central Empires to announce the rebirth of Poland as an independent country. The decision, which allowed the construction of the first Polish state in more than a century, would mark the politics of Eastern Europe during the following years, since the re-emerging republic would not only have to provide itself with stable institutions but also to defend its vulnerable borders from the very beginning. As privileged witnesses of the events which took place during those years, the Spanish diplomats sent to Madrid numerous reports that, as a whole, constitute a valuable documentary archive to learn more about a crucial period in European history and the relations between two countries, Spain and Poland, with many similarities.
