    This study discuss the establishment of the “Instituto de Química Industrial” (Industrial Chemistry In-stitute), in order to highlight the how was the beginning of the process of forming the field of chemistry in Sergipe. The temporal delimitation corresponds to the period from 1923 to 1926. The first sign refers to the year of establishment of the institute, as the final milestone featuring the integration of the institution to a new organizational structure. The warp of the plot, we use different sources such as: laws, decrees, regulations, governmental messages and speeches, reports and journals of the epoch. These testimonies were interpreted Bourdieu’s perspective. The logic of Bourdieu’s thought is given to the theory of fields training. In this study we work with the categories: field, scientific capital and habitus. Thus, the traces showed that the basis for establishing the field of chemistry in Sergipe began to germinate with the func-tioning of the Industrial Chemistry Institute. Although the creation of that institution has been an act of political will of President Maurício Graccho Cardoso, the entire structure built out to the unfolding of the decisive battles that were aimed at ensuring that new professional workspace.

    Este estudo discute a criação do Instituto de Química Industrial, a fim de evidenciar o como se deu o início do processo de formação do campo da Química em Sergipe. A delimitação temporal corresponde ao período de 1923 a 1926. O marco inicial refere-se ao ano de criação do instituto, já o marco final caracteriza a integração da instituição a uma nova estrutura organizacional. Na urdidura da trama, usamos fontes diversas, tais como: leis, decretos, regulamentos, mensagens e discursos governamentais, relatórios e jornais de época. Estes testemunhos foram interpretados numa perspectiva bourdiana. A lógica do pensamento de Bourdieu se dá a partir da teoria da formação dos campos. Neste estudo trabalhamos com as categorias de campo, capital científico e habitus. Assim, os vestígios evidenciaram que as bases para constituição do campo da Química em Sergipe começaram a germinar com o funcionamento do Instituto de Química Industrial. Embora, a criação da referida instituição tenha sido um ato da vontade política do presidente Maurício Graccho Cardoso, toda a estrutura montada fora decisiva para os desdobramentos dos embatesque visavam assegurar aquele novo espaço de atuação profissional.
