La sociedad actual huye del dolor y de la muerte. Pero al mismo tiempo la eutanasia se abre camino en distintos ámbitos. El término eutanasia no tiene un sentido unívoco, sino que según el contexto parece tener un significado u otro. Para unos es un nuevo derecho que reconoce la autonomía absoluta del individuo sobre su propia vida y sobre su propia muerte. Para otros es una forma injusta de matar y se asimila a un homicidio por compasión. La eutanasia, tal y como se conoce en los países donde es legal, presenta algunas incongruencias y sobre ella también recaen importantes dudas éticas. La aprobación de la eutanasia tiene diversas repercusiones en el sistema jurídico, en la Medicina y en el reconocimiento y valor de la dignidad humana, cuestiones que deben ser objeto de reflexión sosegada

Today's society flees from pain and death. But at the same time euthanasia is making its way in different areas. The term euthanasia does not have a univocal meaning, but depending on the context it seems to have one meaning or another. For some it is a new right that recognizes the absolute autonomy of the individual over his own life and over his own death. For others it is an unjust way of killing and is assimilated to a mercy killing. Euthanasia, as it is known in the countries where it is legal, presents some inconsistencies and important ethical doubts also fall on it. The approval of euthanasia has various repercussions on the legal system, on medicine and on the recognition and value of human dignity, issues that should be the subject of calm reflection
