    Las excavaciones realizadas en 2006 en el solar de la Biblioteca Municipal de Mértola (Portugal) permitieron documentar por primera vez contextos inalterados de finales de la Edad del Hierro y los inicios de la presencia romana. Estos últimos constituyen en su mayoría basureros y grandes niveles de vertidos asociados a la primitiva muralla de la ciudad. En ellos se ha documentado una gran cantidad de restos, principalmente cerámicos, que permiten reconstruir el tráfico comercial y las formas de vida de sus habitantes. Entre las ánforas destaca además un amplio conjunto inédito de estampillas y tituli picti púnicos, itálicos e incluso griegos, entre los cuales se incluye un singular ejemplar de procedencia gaditana. La marca presenta tanto figuración como epigrafía, lo que la convierte en un unicum dentro del estampillado anfórico púnico occidental y en una pieza clave para comprender el desarrollo regional de este fenómeno.

    The excavations carried out during 2006 at the site of the Municipal Library of Mértola (Portugal) made it possible to examine for the first time unaltered deposits dating to the end of the Iron Age and the early Roman era. The latter are mostly rubbish dumps and large layers of debris associated with the city's primitive wall. A large number of remains were unearthed, mainly ceramics, which allow us to study the commercial dynamics and the lifestyle of its citizens. Among the amphorae, there is also a large unpublished set of Punic, Italic and even Greek stamps and tituli picti, including a unique example from Cadiz Bay. This stamp shows both figures and epigraphy, a unicum within the Western Punic amphora sealing habits and an exemplary masterpiece for understanding the regional development of this phenomenon.

    Die Ausgrabungen, die 2006 auf der Parzelle der Stadtbibliothek von Mértola (Portugal) durchgeführt wurden, ermöglichten erstmals die Untersuchung ungestörter Fundkontexte, die sich auf das Ende der Eisenzeit und die frühe römische Zeit datieren lassen. Bei Letzteren handelt es sich hauptsächlich um Müllhalden und große Schuttschichten, die mit der ehemaligen Befestigungsmauer der Stadt in Verbindung stehen. Es wurden zahlreiche Funde gemacht, vor allem Keramik, die eine Annäherung an die kommerzielle Dynamik und den Lebensstil der Bewohner ermöglichen. Unter den Amphoren befindet sich auch eine ganze Reihe unveröffentlichter punischer, italischer und sogar griechischer Stempel und tituli picti, darunter ein einzigartiges Exemplar aus der Umgebung von Cádiz. Dieser Stempel zeigt sowohl Figuren als auch Inschriften, ein Unikum innerhalb der westpunischen Amphorenstempel und ein Schlüssel zum Verständnis der regionalen Entwicklung dieses Phänomens.
