The following article clearly presents the results obtained from the research “The narrative text and the construction of reading and writing skills at the preschool level”, taking as a reference the stages and process of acquisition of oral and written language that children have, supported from different pedagogical perspectives, where it is reaffirmed that the communicative competence is far from being a mechanical and repetitive learning as a source of learning. The main objective of the aforementioned research was to identify reading skills and the writing process through the narrative text in preschool children in the city of Cali. The development of this project made it possible to see each child as a different subject from others, autonomous, who communicates with others, who appeals to his responsibility to write as he considers it is right, who seeks solutions, who proposes ideas.
