La presente comunicación tiene por objeto destacar el papel de la realeza españolaen el desarrollo de la rama femenina del franciscanismo y de la Orden Tercera. Trata de la voca-ción de la llamada “Monja Infanta”, es decir Sor Margarita de la Cruz, hija del emperador Maxi-miliano II y María de Austria, hija del César Carlos y hermana del todopoderoso Felipe II.

The aim of the present paper is to highlight the role of the Spanish royalty in thedevelopment of the feminine branch of Franciscanism and of the Third Order. It deals with thevocation of the so called “ Nun Princess “, that is to say Sister Margarita de la Cruz, daughterof Emperor Maximilian II and Maria of Austria, the daughter of Emperor Carlos and sister ofthe all-powerful Philip II.
