    El aumento de la práctica de actividades deportivas , frecuentemente sin la orientación adecuada, favorece el incremento de la aparición de lesiones en las extremidades inferiores por sobreuso. Entre estas afecciones, el síndrome de estrés tibial medial (SETM) o periostitis del tibial constituye una de las causas de visita más frecuentes a las consultas de traumatología y fisioterapia en los diferentes servicios de salud. Se produce cuando hay sobreesfuerzo y afecta a la porción inferodistal de la tibia. Su cuadro clínico, en el que se basa el diagnóstico, se caracteriza por un dolor en dicha zona y a veces por una inflamación aparente. El interrogatorio y la exploración deben hacer hincapié en factores que favorecen su aparición tanto intrínsecos como extrínsecos. Para su curación el tratamiento conservador es el más elegido, basado en reposo, crioterapia AINES y fisioterapia.

    The increase in the practice of sports activities, often without adequate guidance, favors the increase in the appearance of injuries in the lower extremities due to overuse. Among these conditions, medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS) or tibial periostitis is one of the most frequent causes of visits to traumatology and physiotherapy consultations in the different health services. It occurs when there is overexertion and affects the inferodistal portion of the tibia. Its clinical picture, on which the diagnosis is based, is characterized by pain in that area and sometimes by apparent inflammation. The questioning and exploration should emphasize both intrinsic and extrinsic factors that favor its appearance. For its cure, conservative treatment is the most chosen, based on rest, NSAID cryotherapy and physiotherapy.
