Resumen de A possible role for buildings in the search for a sustainable transportation in university campuses

Higher education institutions are increasingly striving to become fully sustainableorganizations The search for sustain ability in university campuses includes zero carbontransportation that implies the use of electric vehicles (EV) and their rechargewith electricity from renewable sources. Nevertheless, this requirement is normallyconsidered only for displacements inside the campus; but, for a real sustainableapproach, the displacements from and to the campus of the involved EVs shouldbe also taken into account. Therefore, there is a need to supply EVs in the campuswith enough clean electricity to recharge them for the consumption generated inthese total displacements. Buildings in the campuses usually have parking spacesthat could allocate the needed recharge points. Additionally, they can accommodaterenewable sources, either PV panels and/or wind generators that could providethe clean electricity needed for the recharges. Therefore, a methodology has beendeveloped to take into account all these aspects: EVs displacements, recharge capabilities,system design and economic viability. Simulation of this methodology for auniversity campus located in the Valencia area is addressed and detailed planning forapplication to a specific building of the UPV is outlined.
