El interior de la meseta en general y la provincia de Albacete en particular, presentan patrones de asentamiento y de aprovechamiento del entorno distintos a los que conocemos en lugares como Valencia, Murcia, Granada o Córdoba en el periodo andalusí, más aún si hablamos del ámbito rural frente a las ciudades islámicas o los hisn de mayor tamaño. Por ello, este trabajo pretende analizar el proceso de asentamiento en el entorno del río Mundo, en la sierra del Segura, Albacete, un espacio entre la Cora de Tudmir y el hisn de Alcaraz que por su orografía ha requerido unos sistemas de poblamiento y de explotación del territorio particulares. Se conocen diversas alquerías y fortificaciones, más o menos documentadas, pero es necesario establecer las relaciones que se dan entre estas y su ubicación, concretar su emplazamiento y sus estrategias de subsistencia.
