We don’t know who invented the telescope. Evidence is presented that allows us to assume this was an inventionprior to the 17th century. Based on research by Pierre Borel in the mid 17th century, Zacharias Janssen ispresented as a possible inventor. The first telescopes built by Galileo Galilei are described, as well as like the“great astronomical discoveries” made by him. The challenges that followed to improve this invention that led,among other things, to the invention of the reflecting telescope

Não sabemos quem inventou o telescópio. São apresentados indícios que nos permitem supor ser essa umainvenção anterior ao século XVII. Com base em pesquisa realizada por Pierre Borel em meados do século XVII,Zacharias Janssen é apresentado como um possível inventor. Os primeiros telescópios construídos por GalileoGalilei são descritos, assim como as “grandes descobertas astronômicas” realizadas por ele. São apresentadosos desafios que se seguiram para a melhoria desse invento que levaram, dentre outras coisas, à invenção dotelescópio refletor.
