  Maria Ondina Braga’s writing is inseparable from her various journeys and migrations throughout the world – from Europe (France and England) to the territories ofAfrica and the Orient (Macao and China). The literary production of this contemporary Portuguese writer emphasizes the theme of travel and self-exile, which gives her writing a repeated motif of cosmopolitan wandering. This literary prose of the author’scontemplative and fragmented style is particularly visible in the works of Estátuade Sal, Passagem do Cabo e Vidas Vencidas [Statue of Salt; Passage of the Cape; LivesPassed]. In her writing, particularly in semi-autobiographical, genologically hybridworks and based on memory, she attaches particular importance to inter-cultural dialogue reflecting a philosophy that is always open to the diverse and the Other.
