Resumen de Laser deposition of alumina and carbon black on AISI 4340 steel

G. Vasconcelos, V Teleginski, N.A.M. Athanazi, G.C.C. Coreard, A.C. Oliveira

  • In the present work, a laser beam was used to cover, with graphite (solid lubricant material) mixed with alpha alumina (a-Al2O3), surfaces samples of AISI 4340 steel. The proportion of each component used was 50%, mixed in a planetary ball mill for 2 hours. A CO2 laser beam of 125 W and 0.2 mm beam diameter was used to irradiate the samples previously coated with the powders. The reduced friction of the mechanical part was confirmed by a tribo-tester in a reciprocal mode. Friction near to 0.15 was obtained with substrate steel hardened to 900 Hv with a ceramics top coating.
