    La pandemia ha renovado el clásico debate sobre el papel de la ciencia en la toma de decisiones políticas, especialmente en las democracias. Ante la incertidumbre que ha provocado y que pone en riesgo la noción de seguridad jurídica, la ciencia podría ser vista por algunos como la garantía absoluta de previsibilidad y, por tanto, guía de las decisiones. Se trata de saber si la decisión del político debe encontrar su fuente de legitimación en la respuesta de la ciencia, o si el papel de ésta es el de asesorar, sin sustituir el núcleo de la decisión que siempre ha de quedar en manos de quien tiene legitimidad democrática para ello. Quizá no conviene exigir demasiado de una y de otra: ni la ciencia es el nuevo demiurgo, ni la decisión política puede llevarse a cabo siempre con la previsibilidad que garantice el acierto y, por tanto, la seguridad jurídica.

    The pandemic has renewed the classic debate on the role of science in political decision-making, especially in democracies. In the face of the uncertainty it has provoked and which threatens the notion of legal certainty, science could be seen by some as the absolute guarantee of predictability and, therefore, a guide for decisions. The question is whether the politician’s decision should find its source of legitimacy in the response of science, or whether the role of science is to advise, without replacing the core of the decision, which must always remain in the hands of those who have the democratic legitimacy to do so. Perhaps it is not appropriate to demand too much of one or the other: neither science is the new demiurge, nor can political decision-making always be carried out with the predictability that guarantees the right choice and, therefore, legal certainty
