The paper reviews a number of working safety scenarios in harsh environments based on RFID (radio frequency identification) technology. Some of them are used at seaports, some in construction, and some in oil and gas industry. The advantages and disadvantages of these systems are analyzed in the context of their possible implementation in a developing seaport which operates in the transitional economy, i.e., the Port of Bar (Montenegro). It is also given a proposal for an RFID technology based port workers safety model which should at a satisfying level meet the individual needs of the Port of Bar, and which is at the same time cost-effective, reliable, and scalable. The directions for the future research work in this field are given, as well.
