El lavado de manos es una medida higiénica que fue desarrollada ya en el siglo XIX pero que todavía hoy en pleno siglo XXI no ha sido capaz de llegar a toda la población. En el año 2020, la pandemia mundial producida por el COVID-19 hizo ver tanto a profesionales sanitarios como población general que lavarse las manos salva vidas. Además, en esta revisión hacemos hincapié en la importancia que tiene el lavado de manos quirúrgico y las técnicas que existen para realizarlo.

Hand washing is a hygienic measure that was developed as early as the nineteenth century but still today in the twenty-first century has not been able to reach the entire population. In 2020, the global pandemic produced by COVID- 19 made both health professionals and the general population see that washing hands saves lives. In addition, in this review we emphasize the importance of surgical hand washing and the techniques that exist to perform it.
