Resumen de La protección social de los mayores durante la pandemia del Covid-19: Efectos en su asistencia sanitaria, dependencia, servicios sociales y pensiones

La pandemia del COVID-19 ha tenido una especial virulencia sobre las personas mayores, cuya protección social se ha puesto a prueba, no siempre con buen resultado. En este trabajo se analizan los efectos que la pandemia han tenido en los cuatro sistemas protectores de las personas mayores: sistema de salud, cuidados de larga duración (dependencia), servicios sociales y pensiones. Los dos primeros han sido los que han soportado más tensiones. Mientras que el sistema de pensiones, por no requerir un trato personal, ha pasado la crisis sin que ningún pensionista quedara desprotegido económicamente, habiendo solo retrasos en las nuevas altas. Pero si hay un sistema que no ha cumplido las expectativas, ha sido el sanitario en la primera ola, dando lugar incluso a la vulneración de los derechos humanos de las personas mayores, cuestión ésta que también se analiza.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a special virulence on the elderly, whose social protection has been put to the test, not always with good results. This work analyzes the effects that the pandemic has had on the four protective systems for the elderly: the health system, long-term care, social services and pensions. The first two have been the ones that have endured the most tensions. While the pension system, because it does not require personal treatment, the crisis has passed without any pensioner being economically unprotected, with only delays in new registrations. But if there is a system that has not met expectations, it has been the health system in the first wave, even giving rise to the violation of the human rights of the elderly, an issue that is also analyzed.
