En este artículo hacemos referencia a un texto de J. M. Keynes y otro de B. Russell, escritos en los años treinta. Ambos, pronosticaban que actualmente estaríamos trabajando con una jornada laboral reducida de unas cuatro horas al día. ¿Por qué han fallado tan estrepitosamente las previsiones de estos dos grandes genios del pensamiento del siglo XX? ¿Por qué ahora resulta utópica o disparatada esta idea que en aquellos tiempos parecía, sencillamente, de sentido común? Repasamos también un texto de Chesterton sobre el mismo problema, en el que hace un diagnóstico muy preocupante sobre la salud mental de nuestras sociedades capitalistas

In this article we refer to a text by J. M. Keynes and another by B. Russel written in the 1930s. Both forecasted that we would currently be working a reduced workday of about four hours a day. Why have the predictions of these two great 20th-century geniuses with their inmense knowledge failed so profoundly? Why is this idea now appears as utopian or even absurd when at that time seemed simply common sense? We will also review a text by Chesterton on the same problem, in which he addresses what he considers a very worrying diagnosis about the mental health of our capitalist societies.
