Change the Map Changes the Object. - Trying to describe the ancient and inherited spatial organization of an ordinary landscape at a location in Sorigny (Indre-et-Loire Department, France) by using classical procedures for interpreting photographs leads to a dead end. Another method for identifying morphological processes is suggested that hinges on a combination of physical and social factors and on interrelations between various disciplines. Two interlocking networks are identified: a "fluvio-parcel" network and a "hydro-parcel" one. Most other spatial elements hook up to these networks and are organized around them. Drawing maps sheds light on how certain habitats and plots of land act like "geometrical connectors". Thought is given to the genesis and dynamics of patterns so as to inquire into the reasons why this ecogeographical approach is of interest to historians and archeologists.

En cherchant à caractériser, à l'aide des procédures classiques de la photo-interprétation, l'organisation spatiale ancienne et héritée d'un paysage ordinaire situé à Sorigny (37), l'auteur se heurte à une impasse et suggère une autre méthode d'identification des processus morphologiques, axée sur la combinaison d'éléments physiques et sociaux et l'articulation des objets des différentes disciplines. Elle identifie deux réseaux imbriqués l'un dans l'autre : un réseau " fluvio-parcellaire " et un réseau " hydro-parcellaire " à partir desquels se connectent et s'organisent la plupart des autres éléments spatiaux. L'élaboration cartographique met en valeur le rôle de " connecteurs géométriques " joué par certains habitats et parcellaires. Le travail se prolonge par une réflexion sur la genèse et la dynamique des formes permettant de se demander en quoi cette élaboration de type écogéographique intéresse l'historien et l'archéologue.
