Resumen de El eje histórico de Paris mas alla de la Defense: Un reto de composición urbana para el fin de siglo

  La continuación del sector de negocios de La Défense en París más allá del nuevo edificio monumental de la Grande Arche, sobre el eje histórico de Paris, abre el debate sobre la manera de tratar esta prolongación, la primera que se opera en el eje desde hace dos siglos. Columna vertebral de Paris y expresión grandilocuente de su historia, el eje histórico de París reclama una intervención coherente. El 'libro blanco » (Livre Blanc), propuesto por el propio Primer Ministro como preludio a la revisión del esquema director de urbanismo de la región parisina, habla de la necesidad regional de este eje y de la vocación internacional de sus actividades, precisando que su prolongación debería tener la ambición de conciliarse, pero con un lenguaje contemporáneo, con la tradición de los grandes trazados urbanos que organizan la región. Este artículo persigue establecer ciertas bases de composición urbana para esta reconciliación.

  Carrying the business district of Paris, La Defense, on and through the monumental threshold of La Grande Arche and thus prolongling what has been the historical axis of Paris for these two centuries past leads in this paper to a discussion of how this could be best done. As the backbone of Paris and the grandiloquent expression of her history is here in question, only a coherent intervention will answer her needs. The White Book (Livre Blanc) that was suggested by the Prime Minister himself as a first step in up-dating the master concepts of the Paris' region's planning, while speaking of that region's need for this axis and of its activities international tone nevertheless insists that the mooted prolongation would have to reconcile these new demands to the great traditional layout of the region and yet do this in the most up-to-the-minute way. The paper ventures to establish a feasible compositional planning basis on which such a very entailed solution might possible rest.
