Partiendo de un breve recuerdo del Cisma de Occidente de 1054 que explique la separación de las iglesias católica y ortodoxa, interesa centrar la atención de este artículo primero en los templos de ambas iglesia y su distribu-ción espacial para fijar la atención en el presbiterio como lugar privilegiado de los mismos y centrar las reflexiones principales en los dos muebles litúrgicos ubicados allí, el retablo católico y el iconostasio ortodoxo. Objeto de especial atención es la comparación de programas iconográficos, morfología y estructura, evolución y funciones o finalidades que ambos muebles presentan y que ayuden a comprender mejor su sentido en cada culto o liturgia

Starting from a brief recollection of the Western Schism of 1054 that explain the separation of the Catholic and Orthodox churches, it is interest-ing to attention of this article first in the temples of both churches and their distribution space to focus attention on the presbytery as a privileged place of them and focus the main reflections on the two liturgical pieces of furniture located there, the Catholic altarpiece and the Orthodox iconostasis. Special object attention is the comparison of iconographic programs, morphology and structure, evolution and functions or purposes that both pieces of furniture present and that help to better understand its meaning in each cult or liturgy
