    En 55 a. C., con la intervención militar en Egipto, por Aulo Gabínio para restituir el trono a Ptolomeo XII, empieza un nuevo capítulo de las relaciones entre Roma y Egipto. Se conoce muy poco de esta primera guarnición y de los hombres que en ella participaron o comandaron. Julio Cesar les llamó Gabiniani, un término que las otras fuentes antiguas adoptarán. Así mismo, esta guarnición tuvo un papel muy importante en la conquista de Egipto, permitiendo que Roma ubicase fuerzas militares en el territorio. No es cierto el origen de estos hombres y no es claro lo ocurrido después del año 47 a. C. Lo que sigue cierto es su función de garante de la estabilidad de Ptolomeo XII y así asegurar Egipto para Roma.

    In 55 BC, the military intervention in Egypt by Aulus Gabinius to reinstitute Ptolemy XII to his throne began a new chapter of the relation between Rome and Egypt. We know very little about this first garrison and the men who made part of it or who were commanding it. Julius Caesar named them Gabiniani, term that the ancient sources adopt. Still, this garrison played a major role in the conquest of Egypt, allowing Rome to station military forces in the territory. It’s not certain the origin these men and what happened to them after 47 BC is not clear. Although it was only to secure the king in the throne, in reality, it was to secure Egypt to Rome.
