    El esparto siempre estuvo muy presente en esta tierra, desde el Neolítico hasta nuestros días ha sido esta una importante actividad económica, pero es a partir del último tercio del siglo XIX cuando despega con mayor brío, hasta que pasada la Guerra Civil, con la llegada de la Autarquía se alcanza la época de mayor esplendor coincidiendo con el momento de la transformación de los procesos artesanales en industriales. Un apogeo que se prolongará hasta bien avanzada la década de los sesenta del pasado siglo, cuando los materiales sintéticos provocan el colapso de esta actividad industrial que aún en nuestros días se mantiene, aunque apenas se trate de un testimonio de lo que fue. Se abordan aquí tanto pasado y presente, así como las perspectivas de futuro de una industria fundamental cuya huella en el territorio es más que notoria, de ahí que otra de las consecuencias del presente trabajo se evidencie en el cartografiado de todos los testimonios que hemos conocido, en su mayor parte por medio de un trabajo de campo para el que hemos contado con la ayuda de unos testimonios muy reveladores.

    The esparto was always very present in this land, from the Neolithic to the present day it has been an important economic activity, but it is from the last third of the nineteenth century when it takes off with greater vigor, until after the Civil War, with the arrival The era of greatest splendor is reached in the Autarchy coinciding with the moment of the transformation of the craft processes into industrial ones. A heyday that will continue until well into the sixties of the last century, when synthetic fibers cause the collapse of this industrial activity that still remains today, although it is hardly a testimony of what it was. Both past and present are addressed here, as well as the future perspectives of a fundamental industry whose footprint in the territory is more than noticeable, hence another of the consequences of this work is evidenced in the mapping of all the testimonies we have known, for the most part through a field work for which we have had the help of very revealing testimonies.
