En este trabajo ofrecemos, en primer lugar, una panorámica general de la sociedad romana altoimperial para, a continuación, centrar nuestro análisis en los grupos sociales que conformaron la sociedad de la Córdoba romana, ofreciendo ejemplos de los datos que nos aportan las fuentes clásicas al respecto. Además realizamos un breve comentario de las instituciones municipales y su papel en la política y el gobierno de la ciudad. Finalmente, analizaremos el papel de la munificencia cívica, en especial las motivaciones que tuvieron los notables municipales para realizar estas donaciones y la respuesta que obtuvieron en forma de honores cívicos.

In this work we offer, first of all, a general overview of the Roman society. Secondly, we will center our analysis on the social groups that formed the society of the Roman Cordova, offering examples of the data that the classic sources provide us with respect. We also made a brief commentary on the municipal institutions and their role in the politics and government of the city. Finally, we will analyze the role of civic munificence, especially the motivations that had the municipal notables to make these donations and the response that they obtained in the form of civic honours.
