Resumen de Incomprensión de los conceptos metodológicos y estadísticos

  El paradigma metodológico dominante en la psicología empírica de hoy es el de la "comprobación de hipótesis" en su versión má~ estricta: "la comprobación de la hipótesis nula", Para algunos autores, no es ésta la mejor opción, Por ejemplo, Meehl (2002) afirma taja ntemente que "reliance on null hypothesis significance testing in theory resting is that it lacks the risky, severe character of tests involving numerical precision" (Págs, 394) .. Sin debatir los méritos técnicos del procedimiento, es cierto que se presta a problemas interpretativos. Trabajos como los de Krantz ( 1999), Nickerson (2000) o Dar y colaboradores (1994) los han puesto recientemente de relieve. Probablemente, Krantz ha dado en el clavo cuando afirma que "statisticians prove theorems or develop methods that, if properly applied, would be useful. lf people rnisapply them, this is viewed as a problem for education, not for statistical research" (Pág. L374). Nues tro trabajo se inscribe en esta vertiente pedagógica que no ha s ido suficientemente explorada con anterioridad. Trabajos empíricos previos (Mittag y Thompson, 2000;

  Haller y Krauss, 2002; Gordon, 2001) han identificado las opiniones de los investigadores al respecto, comprobando que en torno a los tests de significación se dan interpretaciones usuales totalmente inaceptables.

  Para evaluar las creencias y opiniones que el profesorado universitario tiene acerca de ciertas cuestiones meto dológicas y es tadísticas hemos diseñado un Cuestionario (USABE). De manera especial, hemos querido detectar las opiniones acerca de los tests de significación estadística, con el fin de a) prevenir interp retaciones inadecuados, b) corregir usos incorrec tos, c) crear un debate acerca de alternativas posibles y d) proponer cambios editoriales en los criterios de publicación.

  The paradigm dominan! in the empirical psychology of today is that of the "verification of hypothesis" in its stricter vcrs ion: "the verifi cation of the null hypothesis". For sorne authors, is not this the best option. As Krantz affirms: "statisticians prove theorems or deve lop methods that, if properly applied, would be useful. If people misapply them, this is viewed as a problem for education, not for s tati stical research" (P. 1374). To evaluate the beliefs and opinions that the university faculty has about certain methodological and statistical questions we have designed a Questionnaire (USABE). We have dear to detect the opinions about the tes ts of statistical significance, in order to a) to prevent inadequate interpretations, b) to correct incorrect uses, c) to crea re a debate about possible altcrnatives and d) to propuse editorial changes in the criteria of publication.
