Evocamos la figura de Joaquín Castilla Romero, maestro del diseño ornamental, con el fin de acercarnos al conocimiento del aspecto humano y capacidad creadora de este artista andaluz de la primera mitad del siglo xx (1888 — 1969). Quien dedicó gran parte de su ingenio al diseño de las artes suntuarias, dentro del ámbito de la religiosidad popular, en los campos del bordado, la orfebrería, y la cerámica, donde llegó a realizar proyectos de gran envergadura; especialmente entre los dedicados al culto público de la Virgen María. Como los de la Hermandad Universitaria Hispalense, la orfebrería del "paso" de la Macarena, y los vinculados con el Rocío; en especial el llamado "manto de los Apóstoles" de la Señora de Almonte. Opinando que, este artista merece, por lo que representa y aporta en éste importante campo del Arte y la Artesanía de nuestro pueblo, el reconocimiento de su nombre y la justa valoración de su talento.
This paper is meant to elicit the personality of Joaquín Castilla Romero, a master in the ornamental design, in order to get near the human aspect and creative ability of this Andalusian Artist from the xx century first decades (18881969). Castilla devoted most of his knowledge to the ornamental art within the realm of popular religiosity within the fields of embroidery, craftsmanship, and clay. Where he achieved works of great value mainly among those devoted to the public cult of the Mother of God, for instance those made for the Brotherhood of Sevilla University; the craftmanship of the Macarena float and those related with the Rocío Pilgrinage, mainly the so called "the Apostoles' Robe" of Our Lady of Rocío. This artist deserves a great acknowledgement due to his important contribution in the areas of art and handicraft, as well as the recognition ofhis value and the fair appraisal ofhis talent.
