Resumen de The Birth of Printed Drama from Medieval Manuscript: A New Discovery in the Case of a Polish Dialogue Between Master Polycarpus and Death

Andrzej Dąbrówka

  • The fifteenth-century Polish dramatic dialogue between Death and a church teacher Polycarpus was one of several vernacular versions of a short Latin prose dialogue of the early fourteenth century. There are further translations of the text from Polish into Russian and Ukrainian. Now a Krakow print dated 1542 has been discovered, that contains that very dialogue, extended by new motifs, and developing the structure into a more advanced theatrical play. The paper examines the relation between the old manuscript (1463) and the printed version.
